In April 2007, as part of post-conflict reintegration efforts in Aceh supported by the IOM through its Information, Counseling, and Referral Services (ICRS) initiative, Timang contributed by organizing a three-day livelihood training session in Aceh Besar for approximately 30 former combatants. The training focused on basic financial literacy, simple bookkeeping, and an introduction to marketing to support livelihood strengthening and socio-economic reintegration.

Severe flooding that struck Aceh Tamiang Regency in late November 2025 caused damage to and contamination of clean water sources, particularly household wells and small-scale water systems. Many residents lost access to safe water during the emergency and early recovery periods, increasing health risks and household burdens.
In response to this situation, a WASH intervention was implemented from January to February 2026 to restore clean water access in the affected areas. Activities focused on installing water supply systems and rehabilitating wells, guided by field assessments, coordination with local government, and community input.
During implementation, four stationary water system units and one mobile water system unit were operated across several priority villages, while 34 damaged and contaminated wells were cleaned and rehabilitated—particularly in Kampung Lintang Bawah, where needs were greater. The scope of activities was adjusted from the initial plan to better respond to field conditions without altering the intervention's primary objective.
Despite facing access constraints due to mud and environmental damage, as well as challenges regarding community understanding of safe water usage, the active involvement of residents—including women and youth—facilitated smooth implementation. This intervention contributed to restoring clean water access, reducing reliance on unsafe water sources, and strengthening public health during the early post-flood recovery phase.
Supported by the Kyeema Foundation through the Humanitarian Relief Fund mechanism.
In addition to activities supported by the Kyeema Foundation, TIMANG received support from individual donors, enabling the organization to act swiftly during the initial phase of the emergency response. In the second week following the floods, public donations were used to purchase and distribute supplies to affected families in Aceh Tamiang.
TIMANG also received donations raised by Khadijah Madihi, together with her friends and family in Singapore. This support facilitated follow-up activities, including the cleaning of 32 wells and the construction of a fully equipped, ready-to-use borehole well facility for the community in Kampung Perdamaian, Kuala Simpang City, Aceh Tamiang. Furthermore, the donations supported the construction of two medium-depth borehole facilities in Gampong Seumanah Jaya, East Aceh, to improve local access to clean water, as well as the construction of two medium-depth borehole facilities—one each in Gampong Beuringen and Gampong Dayah Kruet—in Meurah Dua Sub District, Pidie Jaya.
Supported by the HAkA Foundation, Timang cleaned 80 wells in Gampong Meunasah Jaya, Meurah Dua District, Pidie Jaya, using a Cash for Work (CfW) mechanism; additionally, Timang constructed a borehole well facility complete with a water tank, tank stand, water pump, and piping.
On March 18, 2026, the NGO Timang distributed *Zakat Mal* (wealth alms) from a Rakan Timang in Jakarta to 20 mustahiq (eligible recipients) in Meunasah Raya, Meurah Dua District, Pidie Jaya. These recipients were flash flood victims who had undergone a rigorous re-selection process by our team, with priority given to the most vulnerable groups: widows who had lost their financial support, the elderly requiring special care, and individuals with disabilities struggling to meet their daily needs. This initiative not only provided direct material aid but also strengthened the Rakan Timang solidarity network in supporting post-disaster recovery in Aceh, aligning with our commitment to disaster risk management.
Timang also carried out the cleaning of 20 wells in Gampong Meunasah Bie, Meurah Dua Sub District, with support from the Leuser International Foundation, as part of efforts to restore access to clean water for flood-affected communities. The entire well-cleaning process was successfully completed within one week, concluding on June 7, 2026, thereby enabling residents to once again utilize these clean water sources for their daily needs.
In early June 2026, supported by the HAkA Foundation, Timang implemented a post-flood recovery program in Gampong Meunasah Raya and Gampong Dayah Kruet (Meurah Dua District, Pidie Jaya Regency) using a Cash-for-Work (CfW) mechanism. The program aims to assist the community in restoring flood-affected homes and access to clean water, while simultaneously providing temporary employment opportunities for affected residents. Activities included cleaning and washing 97 houses using high-pressure water jets in Gampong Meunasah Raya, as well as revitalizing and cleaning 85 dug wells in Gampong Dayah Kruet. As of this report, operations are ongoing, with 50 houses (52% of the target) and 47 wells (55% of the target) successfully cleared of mud and flood debris.
The program has also yielded valuable insights regarding the effectiveness of the Cash-for-Work approach in supporting community economic recovery, the importance of equipment readiness and operational support, and the need to adapt work methods to field conditions. Moving forward, Timang will continue working to meet the targets for home cleaning and well revitalization, and will conduct an evaluation to enhance the quality of future recovery programs.
